Boats on fire in PA small boat harbour – arson suspected

Date:

In a case of suspected arson, three boats caught fire outside Supreme Leisure in the Port Alfred small boat harbour on Monday night.

Atlas Security received a call from a member of the public at 8.41pm, alerting them to the blaze – at that time only one boat was reported to be on fire.

“When the fire department, Atlas and NSRI arrived, three boats, namely Mustang Sally, Fish Eagle 2 and Mystique were on fire in the parking bay outside Supreme Leisure,” Diederick Stopforth of Atlas Security said.

“It seems like it started in one boat and quickly spread to two others and at this early stage arson is suspected. The quick response from a member of the public, the fire department and Atlas possibly prevented the fire from spreading to the buildings,” Stopforth said.

Anyone with information about the incident is requested to contact the fire department and/or Atlas with information that will assist in the investigation.

“We are very lucky to have such a dedicated fire chief in our town and such diligent people in our community,” Stopforth said.
