Police probe teenager’s death at beachfront apartment

Police have opened an Inquest following the unnatural death of a 17 year old boy in Port Alfred this morning.
South African Police Service spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy said that on Thursday, 18 December 2025 police attended to a complaint involving a stabbing incident at a rental apartment in Francis Drake Street in Port Alfred.
“Upon arrival police found the lifeless body of a 17 year old male with a stab wound to his upper body,” McCarthy said.
“Allegedly at about 8.30am… the 58-year-old father of [the] 17-year-old… heard something falling in the kitchen and rushed to see as to what it was [that had fallen].
“It is further alleged that the [father] discovered his [allegedly] suicidal son, lying on the floor, bleeding from his chest.”
A knife had been found on the floor next to him, McCarthy reported. Emergency medical services  declared the teenager on the scene.
McCarthy said the investigation was ongoing.
