Kowie United’s first rugby team recently won their league quarterfinal clash against Thistles in Despatch, with a score of 25-23.

Sipho Ndinisa scored two tries, Johnny Hilpert and Shane Swartz scored a try each, and Gareth Smit scored a conversion and a drop goal. Coach Leston Hilpert thanked sponsor, Stenden South Africa, which sponsored tracksuits, as well as Denzel Burger, for organising transport.

Hilpert also thanked Jason Prince of Caltex who sponsored R400 towards petrol.

The team will play Booysens Pride in the semis in Uitenhage on Saturday and will be promoted if they progress to – and win the final.
