Bathurst detectives who were on duty since 2.45am this morning responded to a housebreaking that had just occurred at 4.30am.
The complainant awoke to find a burglar next to his bed who fled with several items of electronic communication equipment, police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said.
The police officers followed a footprint which led them straight to the suspect’s residence. An application was used to track the cellphone of the victim. This had also led to the home of the suspect.
All the items, worth R52 000, were recovered and the 37-year-old male suspect was arrested. He faces a charge of housebreaking and theft and will appear in the Port Alfred Magistrate’s court on Monday.
