MASTERY of the sea was tested this past weekend when the Diaz Deep Sea Angling Club hosted the Deep Sea Masters event in Kenton-on-Sea.
“They fished river on Thursday, rock and surf on Friday and a rather churned up with large swell deep sea on Saturday,” said Kenton tourism consultant Este Franz.
“Rain stayed away for most of the event.”
The Hillbillies came in first place, followed by the Fowl Hookers at second place, and the Young Guns came in at third, completing the list of top three winners the event.
The event saw 12 teams contest it out – with 28 competitive anglers in total vying for glory.
Ultimately, Shane Burdette was recognized as the top angler at the event. In addition to floating trophies being awarded to participants, there was a lucky draw of a weekend away from Huntshoek Safaris and a raffle prize of a wheelbarrow full of alcohol from Rosehill SuperSpar.
“A great time was had by all with live music on Friday and Saturday night,” Franz said. “Many thanks to the sponsors: Load Mass Cranes, BUCO Kenton-on-Sea, Huntshoek Safaris, Rosehill SuperSpar.”
