THE SPCA in Port Alfred held a cocktail party on Thursday evening to celebrate the opening of its thrift shop and to thank the committee members, volunteers and staff as well as the many friends of the SPCA for all their hard work.

The new thrift shop takes in all types of items; from clothes to stoves to building materials, in fact, anything that v=can be reused or repurposed and that might be of use to someone less fortunate.

“Most people think our job is to give vaccinations and take in stray dogs. This is perhaps just 10% of the work we do. We care for all animals, domestic pets as well as wild animals. We are not just about caring for dogs and cats,” said SPCA Port Alred chairman, Derek Kleynhans.

The money collected at the thrift shop will go toward medicines for the mobile clinic and other places.
