It was a Mercedes Benz from North West province that went into the drink opposite the prestigious Royal Alfred Marina in the early hours of Saturday morning.
The visitors to Port Alfred accidentally drove into the Kowie River from Beach Road. The two occupants escaped harm, but it was quite a job for the towing company to retrieve their waterlogged car from the drink. Drink is also suspected to have been involved in the accident, but police still have to investigate.
The scene attracted many onlookers, some of whom commented that the “poor blokes probably didn’t know the road well”. Ndlambe Traffic blocked off a portion of Beach Road to allow the tow operation to go unimpeded. Kowie Towing had to wait for low tide to access the vehicle.
