THIS week we wanted to know from the public if they wanted another branded store in Port Alfred and, if so, which one. We gave a choice of several of the most popular national brands or, alternatively, the opportunity to say no to the opening of another store.

“IF you had the opportunity, and cash, to open a shop/store in Port Alfred that is not Here already, which one would you choose?”
A total of 148 people responded to our question, and it was clear what people in town wanted.
A total of 49 votes went to opening a Checkers/Shoprite. This represented 33% of the total votes cast. Food Lovers’ Market received 38 votes (26%) and seemed to be another popular choice.
Mr PriceHOME* received 14 votes (9%), while Nandos and Game were just one vote behind with 13 votes (9%) each.
Those members of the public who felt that opening a store in Port Alfred was a poor investment totalled seven votes (5%) while those who believed that a “branded” store was a waste of an investment and that the town should rather invest in a wholesale cooperative store also garnered seven votes (5%).
Just four people (3%) voted to open an Edgars store and three people (2%) voted for a Musica store.
