Country Club celebrates local sport achievers

GOLDEN BOYS: It was a great week for the Port Alfred Cricket Club who honoured three of their members for various achievements. From left, Warren Bowdler was identified as the top wicket taker, top bowler and top player in last week’s South African Police Services National Week cricket tournament held at Kempton Park, James ‘Foxy’ Fox, chairman of the Port Alfred Cricket Club was honoured with the ‘Momentum Blazer’ at the annual Ngumbela Cricket Tournament for his contribution towards cricket and the club, and Anthony Bowdler was identified as the top umpire at the South African Police Services National Week cricket tournament. Anthony and his son Warren have been chosen to take part in the SAPS SA side in the final of the South African Police Services National Week cricket tournament.

TEAM SPIRIT HIGH: Port Alfred’s Fish Eagles Hockey Club recently played in a seven-a-side hockey festival held in Stutterheim. All teams played on grass and the Fish Eagles were unbeaten, winning five matches and drawing four. From left are, team captain Chris Pike, Andrew Burger, Jamie ‘Tatters’ Bessinger, Shaun Elliott, Sol Xamesi and Darren Elliott.
