AT around 2am this morning, a blue Volkswagen Polo crashed while coming down from Atherstone Road with the wreck coming to a standstill in front of the Royal St Andrews Hotel in Port Alfred.

The driver of the car was allegedly speeding and neglected to stop at the stop street before losing control and swerving onto the grass verge adjacent to the golf course before hitting the island at the parking area in front of Highlander.

The damage to the Royal St Andrews Hotel premises is significant. The polo knocked out a bollard in front of the reception area, broke a window, took out a light on the pavement and smashed a flower-box of the pub’s patio. The vehicle came to a standstill against a coral tree in front of Highander.

Police were on the scene. Witnesses reported that the driver was admitted to Port Alfred Hospital. Further details are unknown at this point. Follow TotT online for more updates.
