While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot in London on Saturday‚ they’ll have the support of children in Lesotho.
The Mamohato Children’s Centre‚ founded by Prince Harry and Prince Seeiso of Lesotho through their charity Sentebale‚ will host a live-screening of the royal wedding. British TV channel ITV will screen the event‚ and is sending journalist Rageh Omaar to report live from the centre.
Palesa Mphohle‚ of Sentebale‚ said it was important to “share in the happiness of the day” with the organisation’s co-founder.
“For us‚ Prince Harry is like family‚ he is one of us‚” she said. “If Prince Harry had not set up Sentebale‚ we‚ as a team‚ would not be working together every day and in each other’s lives. We are in each other’s lives because of him.”
“It feels like a member of our family is bringing home his beloved one to be part of us as a family‚” she said.
The princes established the charity‚ which runs education and healthcare programmes‚ in 2006 to support children who are victims of extreme poverty or the HIV epidemic. The children’s centre opened in 2015.
Prince Harry‚ who has visited the Lesotho often since Sentebale was established‚ is a friend of Relebohile “Mutsu” Potsane‚ who he met when Potsane was four. The two have remained in touch‚ and saw each other when Potsane visited London in 2016 with the Basotho Youth Choir.
At the International AIDS Conference in Durban in 2016‚ Prince Harry said the young people of Lesotho have inspired him to work against the epidemic.
“Seeing young people who have so little‚ yet who work so hard to support their friends and educate their families about HIV‚ continues to inspire all of us at Sentebale‚” he said.
Sebabatso Raliengoane‚ the Youth Hub co-ordinator for Sentebale‚ said following updates about the royal wedding on social media has made them feel like they are part of the celebrations.
“For us‚ Prince Harry is like family‚ he is one of us‚” she said. “If Prince Harry had not set up Sentebale‚ we‚ as a team‚ would not be working together every day and in each other’s lives. We are in each other’s lives because of him.” – TimesLIVE
