Alleged child traffickers to appear in Alexandria Magistrate’s Court

A team of alleged child traffickers was recently arrested and were due to appear in the Alexandria Magistrate’s Court last Thursday.

A police source informed Talk of the Town of the case where a van was stopped in Alexandria by police in which a total of 31 children of various ages were discovered. The men involved were then arrested on charges of child trafficking.

It appears the children are not from South Africa, and a 14-day extension was granted to the prosecution in order to ascertain and verify the nationalities and ages of the children.

After being directed by SAPS to spokespeople within the Hawks high profile crimes unit (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation or DPCI), our enquiries have yet to be answered. The case will resume on September 13.
