The Port Alfred Floral Art Group held their monthly meeting at Settlers Park Hall on Saturday and they were graced with the presence of May Bennett who recently celebrated her 90th birthday.
Bennett shared her years of experience while showcasing some of her best work that took to the stage of different competitions over the years.
She told the story about how she started doing floral art, and in between telling her story she also showcased some of her amazing work that she did for weddings, events, and competitions she has entered over the years.
“Over the years I have fallen in love with floral art, so much so that I have decided to start a business that did flowers for different occasions, events and festivals, and it has been such an amazing journey over the years,” Bennett said.
A lot of the floral art group members showed interest while looking at how exactly the designs came together and they were in awe after every final product.
“I attended competitions as well just to watch what was being done so that we could come back home with ideas. Some of the ideas were for a fundraiser show, some were for our competitions that we entered over the years. Today I am here to show you most of the designs that have made their appearance in different stages over the years,” said Bennett.
Among her showcases she showed the audience a floral design that she entered in Glasgow, a flower that people loved at the National Arts Festival, as well as showing them how to make wedding flowers. After every demonstration people could not believe the beauty and the creative look of every floral arrangement designed on the day.
