According to community members who complained, the leak has been fixed before, but never permanently, because every now and then it keeps coming back. Some even said they were starting to doubt if the people who are sent to fix it know what they doing, or they can even find where the main problem is.

Jonas Gqodoloshe, who lives close by the sewage leak, complained that it has been recurring for a very long time He also fears that the municipality cannot fix the main pipe that keeps on leaking.

“Even now they busy with it. It dries out for some time but then it always comes back. For the longest time we have had to endure the smell that comes from that sewage leak and we can’t stand it at all. People use that way to pass through to go to the other side of the area,” Gqodoloshe said.

Another complaint came from Silindokuhle Maqhubela who also doesn’t live far from the leaking sewage.

“It’s been a long time since they have been trying to fix the same problem. They can’t seem to fix the main problem, I really wish they could fix this problem now once and for all, so that we can at least breathe fresh air,” Maqhubela said.

In response to Talk of the Town’s e-mailed queries, Ndlambe Municipality’s deputy director of infrastructure Thulani Maluleke said they would investigate the issue.
