Big turn out for milestone parkrun

Parkruns in South Africa reached the one million magical mark in membership on Saturday and the Port Alfred parkrun movement hit the tar – and dust – in numbers to help celebrate the achievement. Tagged “one in a million”, scores of runners and walkers were set off by PA parkrun director, Deborah Rees, from the Civic Centre on Saturday morning at 8am. Serious marathoners, the keep fit brigade, the elderly, teenagers, toddlers and enthusiastic fur babies could also be spotted in the crowd who came to celebrate the momentous occasion.  Since launching almost seven years ago, PA parkrun has seen close to 6,000 participants joining the SA movement initiated by Comrades legend, Bruce Fordyce.
