The Bathurst Agricultural Society (BAS) recently announced the appointment of the new Executive Committee for the term 2025-2026. Following a well-attended Annual General Meeting on October 21 2025, members elected a new leadership team. This team is committed to building the Society’s proud 117- year tradition of celebrating rural life, promoting agriculture, innovation, and community spirit.
The newly elected officer bearers are President: Anne White, Vice-President: Gordon van Zyl, Honorary Treasurer: Gavin Came, supported by committee members Gary McKay, Robyn Cloete and Pam Elliot.
President Anne White shared her enthusiasm: “We are honoured by the trust placed in us by our members. Our first big challenge is the Agricultural show taking place 26 – 29 March 2026. Our focus will be on delivering an inclusive, innovative and financially sustainable event that showcases the very best of modern agriculture while celebrating our amazing farming heritage, dating back to the 1820s. This annual event, the largest of the events in the village calendar, also the largest agricultural show in the Eastern Cape, brings a great deal of revenue into the area. Planning is well underway, and we look forward to welcoming exhibitors, competitors, sponsors, and visitors from across the region.
“The new team, is a blend of seasoned members with deep-rooted experience as well as new faces, creating a strong and energetic committee with a wide range of interests and abilities. We are confident that the 2026 show will be the best yet!”
With the help of generous sponsorship, the committee would also be prioritising improvements of the infrastructure at the showgrounds and focusing on community involvement and development.
“The revamped showgrounds will provide a multi-purpose venue for a number of different shows and events,” White said.
