Whiskey thieves busted in Grahamstown

EC: Grahamstown Cluster:

ON Tuesday a whiskey thieving syndicate compromising of two women and one man were arrested in Grahamstown in a joint operation by members of crime intelligence and visible policing.

The notorious trio, specialising in retail thefts, have been rampaging various stores between Port Elizabeth and East London.

Thefts have been a crime of concern and with the assistance of the community and networking with local businesses, members of the Grahamstown Crime intelligence gathered information on the trio and caught them on the act after they committed another theft from a local liquor store.

Alcohol worth over R3 000 was seized. Investigators are currently working with other complainants who have been victims to the whiskey thieves. The suspects face charges of theft and will appear in the Grahamstown Magistrate’s court later this week.

Grahamstown Cluster Commander Brigadier David Kanuka praised the teamwork by the units for their commitment and said they “continue to restore community confidence while we fight crime”.
