DEMOCRATIC Alliance proportional representation councillor Genevieve Cannon died early last Friday morning in the Port Alfred Hospital after falling ill on Thursday evening at her home in Alexandria.
The DA Ndlambe Caucus expressed its sadness at her sudden passing.
Known as Genni, Cannon had been a councillor in Ndlambe since 2006. She was a colourful character and passionate about the DA and lived its values of freedom, fairness and opportunity.
She was loved by all who knew her and did sterling work in her area of Alexandria, Boknes, Cannon Rocks and Klipfontein. She cared deeply for the poor and disadvantaged and assisted unstintingly wherever it was required.
Cannon served as a nominated Ndlambe councillor on the Sarah Baartman District Municipality and also served as the provincial deputy chairperson of the DA women’s network (Dawn) and as chairperson of the Frontier Constituency of Dawn.
“She will be missed by her caucus colleagues,” DA caucus leader Ray Schenk said.
The funeral will be held at New Apostolic Church in Alexandria on Saturday April 29 at 10am.
