Protestors keeping the fires stoked at one of several blockades they erected across the R67 between Port Alfred and Bathurst this morning. Police kept a close watch at the main protest site at the turnoff to 43 Air School. The protest was by residents of New Rest informal settlement, who say they have waited 17 years for land or housing that was promised to them in the Thornhill housing development. The road was later cleared as protestors waited to hear from the mayor.
