Rock and Surf angling in perfect weather

THE ninth round of the Claude Pittaway Round Robin sponsored by took place last Saturday in fantastic weather conditions.

“The water, the waves, the wind all just played ball and great fishing all round,” Port Alfred Rock and Surf chairman Gary du Randt.

“We only had a 43% turnout from our members for the day with a total of 66 fish being caught and a total weight of 86.8kg was recorded. With this said, we had a 100% release rate yet again and I must congratulate the anglers on this. We also caught only six different species on the day.”

Du Randt thanked Darian and Clare Keeton for opening their home for the prize giving. The following achievements were recognised: Biggest in the species: bronze bream – 4.1kg Melissa du Randt; blacktail – 1.0kg Brian Wright and Adrian Bezuidenhout; zebra – 0.7kg Len Titmuss; kob – 3kg Bruce Amos; steenie – 3.4kg Bruce Amos; and a Galjoen – 1.2kg Tom Titmuss.

Top International Game Fishing Association team (weight converted to points) for the day: In 1st place was Team 5 consisting of Darian Keeton, Josie Hillier, Brian Wright and Russell Dales on 127 points; 2nd place on 117 points was Team 1 consisting of Paul Knight, Terry Stewart, Don Murray and Bruce Amos; and in 3rd place was Team 3 consisting of Gary du Randt, Melissa du Randt Brendan Marais and Scott Knight on 101 points.

The sealed weight was won by Don Murray for his 1.7kg bronze bream/steenie. Terry Stewart walked away with top honours catching 19.8kg of fish, Bruce Amos was 2nd with 16.8kg fish and Don Murray on 9.5kg was 3rd. The Paint Factory Catch of the Day went to Melissa du Randt for her bronze bream of 4.1kg, which also won her top lady angler for the day. Joshua de Vos won the U16 division, with Bruce Amos being the masters winner. A few members also won lucky draw prizes.

After prize giving the members that attended enjoyed a braai as well as a nice chat around the fire.

The next fixture takes place on October 7. It is the Round Robin 7 which the club had to postpone and the venue is Birha, commencing at 7am.
