KINGSWOOD College basketball teams enjoyed considerable success last weekend.
The boy’s teams played against Grey High School in Port Elizabeth, with the 1st team winning 24-21 in a nail-biting finale.
The 2nd team has to be commended for rising to the occasion and defeating Grey 2nds 42 -28. Carlo da Costa, Chiti Mutale and Mpho Phakisi shone through that match.
The U16 boys lost 24 – 25 in another nail-biting match. Zolani Booi and Richard Kombe led from the front in that match.
The icing on the cake had to be the 1st team girls playing against Western Suburban Support Forum Basketball 1st team which was a very determined game. Having come from a poor performance last weekend, the girls were ready to prove their worth. At the end of the 1st quarter, Kingswood was still struggling to convert opportunities. The score was at 6-4 to Kingswood. The girls stepped up and played like the team they are.
Playing full court defence, they forced their opponents to concede turnovers. By the end of the 3rd quarter, the game was over as a contest. Yonela Bukula led from the front with debutant Basadi Sitole showing what we will be seeing for many years to come. A great victory, walking away with a score of 49-20 and debutants getting plenty of game time.
