THE second St Andrew’s College Lawn Tennis Challenge took place last weekend.
As was the case last time, the event served as a fundraiser for the local Child Welfare branch, making it even more special.
Despite the fact that the tournament couldn’t actually be played on the school’s Knowling grass court due to heavy rain last Thursday and Friday, all the participants played fantastic tennis on the hard courts at DSG. The event saw eight adult and three St Andrew’s College/DSG mixed doubles teams play round robin matches to determine the winners.
The competition in the adult section was fierce, with two of the top teams in the Eastern Cape making it to the final. The overall winners, Dr Mike Godlonton and his partner Alke Bradfield from Kingswood, were worthy winners and proved why they remain tough to beat in the region.
The SAC/DSG section was won by James Sparks and Lollie van Coller and the “best dressed” award went to Ignus Potgieter and Mikayla Eksteen.
It was a fantastic weekend of tennis and the school thanked Mr Wilkinson and his crew for trying their best to prepare the grass court, as well as to Capital Catering and the sponsors, Helspoort Valley Game Farm, Oak Cottage Spar, Pick and Pay and Harcourts. Without them there would have been no event.
