The Economic Freedom Fighters were out in numbers on Monday morning to protest what they see as a total disrespect for their ancestors after the municipality demolished the gravestones and cleared the remaining debris at the Esleyini cemetery at the end of last week.
“These are our ancestors,” said Xolisa Runeli of the EFF. “Where do we go now to ask for advice? We demand those responsible be suspended until an investigation is carried out.”
After visiting the gravesite with municipal manager Rolly Dumezweni, the EFF returned to town and trashed the top of Campbell Street at the intersection of Main Street, throwing over bins and preventing traffic from entering or exiting the street.
