After playing with determination and purpose for the next level in Ndlambe local league football, Mighty Forest used the same team spirit recently to win a playoff at Bathurst.
By winning the playoff, Mighty Forest booked its position in the South African Breweries League. Might Forest’s first match must have been a clear indication that they knew what was at stake.
All Stars club was the first unfortunate team to play against rivals hungry for success. Forest coach Xolile Velashe said his team won 4-3.
Continuing with a fine form the following day, the playoff winners played against hard-to-beat Bathurst City where they emerged with a victorious 1-0 win. Then a win against Mighty Chiefs by 5-2 sealed Mighty Forest’s place in the SAB League for the next season.
Talking about the advantages of playing in the SAB League, Velashe said: “When you are playing in the SAB League, you are 100% close to Nedbank cup chances which is a national cup tournament that is played for by amateurs against Premier Soccer League teams.”
Mighty Forest was a leading team in the Ndlambe local football league which eventually enabled them to try for the SAB League.
