Kingswood College pupil Bukho Nkwinti, from Port Alfred, has been selected to play for the Eastern Province U13B team and is ecstatic about it.
The 13-year-old cricketer has been playing since he was five years old, when first fell in love with the sport.
“I am now playing for Kingswood College for the U13A team and I feel good about being selected for the Eastern Province. I have worked so hard over the years for this opportunity,” Bukho said.
His dad, Sxeaks Nkwinti, who grew up playing the same sport, expressed his excitement and how proud he is of his sons’ achievement.
“The leaf doesn’t fall far from a tree – my son takes after me,” he said. “I grew up playing the same sport. When I was in Grade 6 I used to play for Midlands and a team called Border. That was back in 1976, so most of the time I train him. Cricket is in the blood of the family.
“All that travelling up and down, going to Port Elizabeth for training and coming back has finally paid off. Spending all that time on the cricket nets training, the gruelling training is finally showing, I am very proud of him and I feel very happy, the results of all that hard work is finally showing,” said Sxeaks.
Bukho will be participating in a regional tournament that will be held in Klerksdorp from December 10 to 14.
“I am very excited about the tournament, I have been training very hard for this opportunity and I am very ready for the match and I am proud of myself and confident too,” said Bukho.
Sxeaks is looking for sponsors to help his son’s budding cricket career.
