Neighbourly Notes – 14 March 2019

GREAT SHOPPING! The winner of the Port Alfred High School carnival raffle, which brought in R60,000 for the school, was Cheryldene Hilpert who won a trolley dash at Rosehill SuperSPAR with a cap of R2,500. Hilpert has a bad back so her daughter Dané was her substitute at the dash on Tuesday evening. With just two minutes to shop, she filled a trolley with R1,997.46 worth of groceries. Dané, fourth from left, was congratulated by PAHS head of marketing, alumni and development Laura Guest and SuperSpar staff members. Picture: JON HOUZET

CONGRATULATIONS to Southwell and Salem for sharing the trophy this year at the annual Kenrich Pineapple Cricket Tournament. Both teams played excellent cricket throughout the year and the final would have been a cracker but, fortunately, we were blessed with two inches of rain that we were desperate for, so there was no play on the final two days.

IT HAS BEEN another week of water woes and power outages in Ndlambe. Between burst pipes and problems caused by the storm on Tuesday, there are households that have not had water for several days. Let’s hope that the problems encountered can be sorted out next week as it is adversely affecting many businesses and households.

THE SETTLERS PARK quiz last Friday was well attended, with residents and visitors taking part. Quizmaster David Boyd had participants racking their brains trying to recall esoteric trivia, with a few kinder questions thrown in, along with famous faces to identify. The winners were the Talk of the Town team, The Flugelbinders, comprising Bryan Smith, Adele Steck, David Steck and Jon Houzet. A second Talk of the Town team came in joint third place, but fell into fourth position after a five question sudden death round. The top three teams won prizes. Well done to everyone who entered.

HUGE thanks to our advertisers and readers who support us on a weekly basis. Without you we could not bring you the news and views of our awesome town. Don’t forget that we are also on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, and of course on our website at www.talkofthetown.co.za.

THOUGHT for the week: “Aim for success, not perfection. Never give up your right to be wrong, because then you will lose the ability to learn new things and move forward with your life.”

BEST regards as always,
The Team.
