All women were warmly welcomed with refreshments on arrival.

Kenton Rotary president Ginny Reed welcomed guests said that the Rotary Club planned to make it an annual celebration of women. She thanked all the sponsors who made the day a success, and all those who sponsored the prizes such as Afrika Kusini Spa, Kenton Bakery, Cherrywood Nursery, Home Industry, House Planner, Kenton Pharmacy, Kenton Butchery, Lindsay Vroom Perfumes, Natural You Beauty Salon, Ocean Brew Café, Robby’s Bottle Store, Surf and Turf Butchery, Rotarians and Continental Conference Centre for the venue.

“Our guest speaker today is Ruleen de Witt who is a qualified nurse who specialises in self-care. She has worked in Greenacres Hospital for 12 years, and also specialises in mental health. In 2007 she started her own wellness company, and I personally think she is the fitting person to speak to us today,” Reed said.

Before she spoke about anything. De Witt told the audience the importance of celebrating women, and then the audience were given a task to do about wellness before she started her talk.

“The aim of this event is to raise awareness and support women in the workplace and in the places they live. Many women suffer and struggle to make everything going on with them and their life fit all in one box,” De Witt said.

“We are here today to sort of guide each other about the importance of wellness, and mental health. Acknowledge your strengths and weaknesses, and we need to understand that there is nothing wrong with having weaknesses – it shows that you are only human,” she said.

“When we are emotionally healthy we can deal with many aspects of life. As women we need to learn to control our emotions, which is why it’s important to take good care of our health both mentally and physically. Pay attention to how you feel, also always make sure you separate yourself to what happens around you.”

De Witt touched on other issues such as the importance of spiritual well-being, how women should explore their spirituality, and that they should also try new spiritual practices.

All proceeds that were made from the event went to polio eradication and local early education.
