From 9 – 11 August, 31 Scouts, 18 Scouters, and parents travelled from Gqeberha and East London to Basil Mills’s farm just off the R67 near Makhanda for thrilling adventure, leadership skills development, and building friendships.

The long weekend was full of team-building exercises and leadership training designed by the Eastern Cape adult Scouters with an extra layer of adventure provided by Basil and his son Steven Mills.

The Scouts were engaged in hands-on teamwork and leadership activities that commanded hand and eye coordination, problem solving, agility, outdoor skills, communication skills and much more.

Scouts were literally “gunning for success” as Royal Navy veteran Steven Mills facilitated action drill and field gun challenge activities. Basil helped with the leadership team building and character building events.

Basil was delighted by the way the Scouts engaged in experiential learning, working together, making new friendships and experiencing old veld style camping.
