THE Talk of the Town website poll question for the past two weeks was: How do you go about managing your healthcare?

We provided several options as answers: I have good to great medical aid coverage; I can’t afford it and have to use state facilities; I have a hospital plan; I have a basic medical aid; I have medical insurance; I can afford it but prefer to use state facilities; I pay cash for private care.

Readers were also allowed to write in their own response, and the single other answer we received was: “I pray, drink water, walk daily, eat healthy, keep a humble group of great friends for company, and I spend a lot of time in nature with cats/pets watching birds and being in a constant state of meditation, rendering me most healthy.”

In total, 58 votes cast between August 31 and September 15.

A total of 17 respondents replied they have good to great medical aid coverage, making up 29% of the poll, while 14 admitted they can’t afford it and have to use state facilities. This made up 24% of those who responded.

Seven respondents said they had basic medical aid (12% of the poll), and six said they had a hospital plan (10%).

Five respondents said they had medical insurance (9%), while another five (also 9%) chose the option provided by a reader, that they “pray, drink water, walk daily, eat healthy, keep a humble group of great friends for company, and I spend a lot of time in nature with cats/pets watching birds and being in a constant state of meditation, rendering me most healthy naturally”.

Two respondents replied that they can afford it but prefer to use state facilities, constituting 3% of the final results, while another two replied that they pay cash for private care, making up the last 3% of those who responded to the poll.
