Creighton’s Motors in Bathurst Street in Grahamstown is being rebuilt

Date:

I READ with interest in Sid Penney’s notes that the old one-time Creighton’s Motors in Bathurst Street in Grahamstown is being rebuilt.

It was a BP site for many years. It was taken over by Liz and Mike Parkins in 1984 and they ran a highly successful business for 10 years in which time they were always among the Top 100 BP dealers in RSA. In fact in one year they were the national champions which says something for the simply outstanding service that they provided and standards that they set. There was never a more motivated and loyal driveway staff and they were well rewarded for their efforts.

In the 34 years I spent with BPSA I was delighted to say I had among the best, and to which in later years was continued by the likes of Jill and Guy White of the present Oak Cottage Motors in African Street which developed from the old Ellmore’s Service Station.

I am sure that there are many among your readers who recall Joe and Basil Ellmore? Thanks for the memories and good luck to the new owners up in Bathurst Street!
