Keeping up with the Pick n Pay Night Bowls Competition

ROUND 2 of the Pick n Pay Night Bowls Competition at the Kowie Bowling Club was rained out on Friday February 23 and had to be rescheduled to Wednesday February 28.

All arrived on time for the bowls and the games got underway shortly after 6pm in beautiful weather for bowls.

Night Bowls convenor Mike Tomlinson said it was expected to be a much quieter night being mid-week with school and work the next day.

“I only realised on the night that it was not only month end but also end of the financial year and I apologise to all who this affected,” he said.

“We had a few runaway games with PA High School defeating CM Heunis by a full house 6 points and a fair shot profit.”

The two biggest wins went to: In Section A, DP Engineering with a 6/+21 over Pick n Pay; and in Section B, the Pig n Whistle also 6/+21 over Leach Pharmacy.

“The strange thing was that both teams had exactly the same score 27/6 so this could not even go to a count out and they both  won exactly the same no of ends. We gave up trying to separate a winner and the two teams shared the “Performer of the Night”. This meant sharing the Pick n Pay vouchers.

The swindle raffle was drawn and Chris of the Pig n Whistle was the winner of a bottle of “Tant Sannie se Melktert”. Then the rollover competition was drawn. With the four ends drawn the score was the next number drawn and this was 6. We had a winner in Chris Roberts Construction, as they were the only score of 6 and they were not there to collect. Not requiring attendance to win, they will receive their prize at the next prize giving.

The Lions Club had a good evening selling all their fast foods on the night with all their profits going towards the PA High School pool refurbishment project.

“Kids and parents, please support this worthy cause,” Tomlinson said.

The past Friday was not a scheduled Night Bowls evening because of other commitments at the club. Round 3 will be played tomorrow evening (Friday March 9).
