Big debt write-off

Ndlambe Council mulls proposal to erase R17m

Ndlambe Municipality has presented a draft to council to write off nearly R17-million in irrecoverable debt owed by municipal account holders, either because the debtor has been deemed indigent or the account holder is deceased.

The breakdown per ward is as follows: Ward 1 (Kwanonqubela, Cannon Rocks and Boknes) R3,9m; Ward 2 (Alexandria and Wentzel Park) R2,3m; Ward 3 (Bushman’s River, Marselle and Klipfontein) R1,8m; Ward 4 (Kenton-on-Sea and Ekuphumleni) R1,1m; Ward 5 (Bathurst, Nolukhanyo and Freestone) R971,000; Ward 6 (Thornhill, Seafield and surrounding farm areas) R719,000; Ward 7 (Nemato) R1,4m; Ward 8 (Nemato) R1,59m; Ward 9 (Nemato, Station Hill and part of Port Alfred’s East Bank) R2,8m; and Ward 10 (Port Alfred) R46,000.
