Plainclothes detectives alongside uniformed police from the Makana and Ndlambe municipal areas, traffic police, security company staff and CPF volunteer patrollers took part in a parade at Titi Jonas hall in Port Alfred to launch the Sarah Baartman Safer Festive Season Operations in Ndlambe on Thursday November 21.
This was the last of seven launches in the district’s seven local municipalities. District Commissioner, Major General Zolani Xawuka said a total of 272 people had been apprehended for crimes ranging from traffic offences to murder during the district-wide operation.
While the district commissioner and dignitaries were busy with the official proceedings, foot soldiers conducted operations in hot-spot areas and raided several drug posts.
SAPS spokesperson Warrant Officer Majola Nkohli said during these operations, scrap metals valued over R164 000 were confiscated and six spaza shops were fined for non-compliance with municipal by-laws.Â
The Ndlambe launch was attended by the MEC for Community Safety, Xolile Nqatha. This year’s Safer Festive Season Operations are being held under the theme, ‘Combating Crime through Decisive Police Action and Robust Community Involvement’.
