A new non-profit organisation dedicated to uplifting and empowering young men and boys was launched in Nemato this week. Phakama Boys to Men (PBM) aims to to equip young men and boys with the tools they need to make better life choices and to contribute positively to their community, by providing a supportive and nurturing environment for boys.
Chairperson Phakama Ntete said traditional approaches to raising young men had yielded little success, and it was time for a new approach. “We have used violence, aggression, and anger to fix our issues with the boy child, and to date, we are still standing in the same place, if not in a worse situation. Maybe it’s high time we change our approach,” Ntete said.
PBM’s main objectives are to educate, foster excellence, and promote better communication and relationships with young boys. The organisation recognises the importance of physical and mental well-being. Ntete said the organisation’s mission was as follows:
“To raise and transform the next generation of men through love, compassion, support, and kindness by providing safe spaces for young boys, mentoring them, and preparing them well for their next chapter of being men.”
Phakama Boys to Men relies on donations to help these boys start their journeys into becoming responsible men in the community, and the organisation says any kind of support would be appreciated.
