A YOUNG Port Alfred surfer and his father are riding high after they both won South African longboard surfing titles at the national championships in Durban last week.

Young Kye “Gremlin” Macgregor, 14, won the U14 title for the second year in a row, while his father David – who owns Shaka Surf School in Port Alfred – bagged his second national title in three years.

To win titles in the same year was extra special for the surf-mad family with David winning the 45 to 50-year-old Kahuna division.

The annual competition was held at Durban’s Bay of Plenty from April 24 to May 1 and attracted over 200 surfers in 16 divisions from four provinces.
