There was also a youth development section in the tournament, which saw youngsters from Nemato who are interested in golf being given the opportunity to practice and improve their game.

Nemato Golf Club chairman Mzwandile Mgweba said 66 players took part in the tournament.

“We had hoped for more than 100, but still those who took part had an enjoyable day. The weather held up for us – we thought it might rain,” he said.

“The golfers were happy with their round. They thanked us for organising such a beautiful tournament. They were also interested to see how the money that was raised will go towards the development programme.”

Mgweba added they continued to look to the Port Alfred community to help the club’s development programme.

He thanked the RPAGC for the use of their course and facilities, and the kitchen staff for keeping the players happy.

He said the club would like to thank the following sponsors: Buco (town), Trelidor, Midas, PA Bricks, Manelec, BP Garage, Wimpy, Kowie Tobacco, Nemato Spar, Keeton’s Funeral Parlour, Kenrich Motors and Nedbank, as well as the RPAGC members who made donations.

Some donated prizes and others donated towards the children in the development programme.

“We thank all who contributed,” Mgweba said.

He made special mention of Colin Mavuso, the winner of the A division, for the work he is doing with township youth who he is giving lessons to at the Rosehill Mall driving range.

Anyone who would like private lessons can contact Mavuso on 073-507-7260. And anyone who would like to contribute to development golf can contact Mgweba on 078-585-6943.
