ON Tuesday evening members of the Lower Albany Woodworkers Guild held their annual general meeting with outgoing chairman Neil Stuart conducting the proceedings at the Masonic Lodge.
After the meeting the members of the guild handed over a collection of beautifully handmade wooden toys to social workers from Port Alfred Child Welfare. The toys showed off the amazing craftsmanship of the members and included wagons with blocks, numerical educational games, a doll’s rocking crib, cars, trucks and beautiful clocks.
Senior social worker Susan Harty expressed her gratitude at the gift of the toys and said they were very popular with the children. Members of the guild extended an offer to Harty to compile a “wish list” for any small jobs at the local foster homes.
Errol Parson presented the financials and concluded that the club does not have a lot of money, and is dependent on the subscriptions, but since the aim of the club was about woodwork and not money that the accounts reflected a positive position.
“The club is not here to make money but we do encourage members to bring new friends and introduce them to what we do,” said Parson.
Stuart said the club was grateful to Buco for their support and discounts available for the guild as well as the Masons who rent out The Lodge hall for a reasonable price. New members were elected for the board but had not been finalised to portfolios at the close of the meeting.
“Thank you for your enthusiasm, membership and comradery,” said Stuart.
