YOUNG Luke Erasmus, a pupil at Port Alfred High School, will be travelling to Langebaan this weekend to take part in the Rock and Surf U/16 nationals, representing the Eastern Province.
Erasmus was selected to represent the province last year and will meet up with three of his fellow teammates to fish a two-day competition from which the Springbok (South African) U/16 squad will be chosen.
In the meantime, Buco donated a 57cm compact Weber kettle braai, which was raffled to go some way in covering the expenses for the trip to the West Coast. Erasmus sold raffle tickets at R5 each and managed to accrue R4 900. As the trip will cost around R6 500, there is still a little way to go.
Buco also donated over R2 000 to the club in terms of fishing tackle and other equipment to enable the team to compete in the nationals. An U/21 team will also be at the nationals where the six-man (or woman) team comprises of two Port Alfred Rock and Surf Club members.
The competition will take place next week and complete on Thursday. More on the Nationals as the news breaks.
Club media liaison, Darian Keeton said he would like to thank Buco for its kind donation as well as direct thanks to branch manager Vanessa Gerber and store manager Andrew Bartlett for their continued support.
