Big haul in latest clean-up of Kowie River

The Port Alfred Lions Club joined forces with the Port Alfred Ski-boat Club and other members of the public to conduct what has become a quarterly river clean-up of the Kowie River. They set out in three barges on Saturday and working between 10.30am and 1pm, they collected about 50 bags of rubbish from the river banks between the ski-boat club and Black Rock at Mansfield, as well as any floating debris they came across. Most of the trash came from the river bank at Centenary Park. It included many plastic bottles, glass bottles, cans, polystyrene food containers, plastic bags and used condoms. Ndlambe Municipality provided the refuse bags and river control officer Willem Nel helped.
