The annual Sunshine Coast Hospice Carols by Candlelight and Tree of Lights, held at the hospital grounds on December 19, is always a popular event for both locals and holidaymakers. The Port Alfred Baptist Church worship band led the carol service and pastor Josh de Wit delivered a message focusing people’s thoughts on the birth of Jesus the Messiah. It is the last year Manelec switched on the Tree of Lights, which they have done for the past 19 years. The original tree was in front of the library and was sponsored by the municipality. Bevan Edwards from Manelec installed the lights in 2000 and Rod Avery switched them on every year since 2003. Manelec’s contract as electrical supplier has come to an end. JON HOUZET took pictures.
